Biography
Since 1987, he has been a Full Professor of Telecommunications Networks at the University of Catania. In 1994, he served as a Senior Visitor at the International Computer Science Institute (ICSI) in Berkeley and received the 2003 Visiting Erskine Fellowship from the University of Canterbury in New Zealand.
Since 1992, he has been involved with the Technical Program Committee of INFOCOM, the IEEE Conference on Computer Communications. He has held prominent roles in various conferences, including serving as General Chair for conferences such as ACM MobiHoc 2006, ACM MobiOpp 2010, ACM MobiHoc 2019, IFIP Networking 2022, and being a current member of the MobiHoc Steering Committee. He has also served as TPC Co-Chair for conferences like IFIP Networking 2011, IWCMC 2013, and European Wireless 2014. Additionally, he has held program and general chair positions for other workshops and conferences.
From 2012 to 2018, he held the position of President of GTTI (Gruppo Telecomunicazioni e Tecnologie dell’Informazione), an association that brings together telecommunication professors and researchers in Italy.
His current research focuses on wireless networks, mobile systems, intelligent network control techniques, multimedia traffic modeling, and protocols for the future generation of the Internet.
From 2012 to 2018, he held the position of President of GTTI (Gruppo Telecomunicazioni e Tecnologie dell’Informazione), an association that brings together telecommunication professors and researchers in Italy.
