INFRASTRUCTURE NODE

United Kingdom

UK node contribution is articulated around training, which is a relevant aspect of an ERIC as it provides all
participating institutions and national nodes with access to a diverse range of training and certification
services. This diverse set of services will be aimed at different stakeholder groups that are part of the scientific community of the SoBigData ERIC. REPHRAIN will also provide training aimed at developing best-practices in the management of sensitive data within a privacy preserving and ethical approach. These training services will allow individuals and groups to acquire knowledge that will be then leveraged to develop research, funding calls and third-party applications. SoBigData ERIC will leverage previous experiences developed within the existence of the SoBigData Research Infrastructure and will also benefit from a revenue stream generated by training services.

The node  also contributes to the SoBigData RI by providing a data archive what will provide the ERIC’s
community with access to verified datasets aiming to aid developments in privacy-preserving practices. The
data archive service will also provide the ERIC community with state of the art practices in the creation,
management and analysis of sensitive datasets. Alongside this service, REPHRAIN will also develop and
maintain a ‘data lake’, a centralised repository that allows storage of structured and unstructured data.
Research that will be performed within this ‘data lake’ will allow policy makers to benefit from insights that
can then be leveraged to inform public policy.
