Colorful Seminar Series: The double-edged nature of the relationship between AI and gender-based violence - 7° Seminar
Abstract
The talk will give a general framework on gender-based violence, focusing on the relationship between AI and GBV. It will explore both the harmful impacts of Generative AI on GBV (non-consensual deepfakes and image-based abuse, AI reinforced bias and online harassment) and the role of AI in preventing and addressing GBV across multiple domains (detection and risk prediction, reporting and real-time monitoring, predictive analytics, bias mitigation).
Speaker Bio
Elettra Stradella is Professor of Comparative Public Law at the Department of Law, University of Pisa.
She is Jean Monnet Chair Holder, EUWONDER Chair 2022-2025 on European Women’s Law and Gender, and Director of the Teaching and Learning Centre at the University of Pisa. She is coordinating at the University of Pisa a National Project (PRIN) AiGeDi (together with University of Milan and University of Milan “Bicocca”) on Artificial Intelligence between generating and tackling gender-based discrimination.

The "Colorful Seminars: Enhancing Diversity and Inclusion" is an initiative of UNIPI to increase the representativeness of diverse groups and bridge the equity gap between underrepresented and marginalized communities. International experts belonging to different communities will be invited to hold seminars on the topics covered by the SoBigData.it project to promote more diverse and inclusive participation in computer and data science events.
The seminars will be hosted by the Department of Computer Science in "Sala Riunioni est" (also with streaming) or will be held exclusively online.
